My Dad, Dr. David E. Crandall is the subject of this website. He is truly a medical miracle because he is the very first patient on record who has been able to reverse the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. He was 85 years old at time of death. He was of higher income, higher education (Dentist), and had a history of being very physically active. His dentition was NOT intact - he was missing #29 (lower right), #13 & #14 (upper left) & #8 (upper left). In addition, he has had extensive dental work including two root canals. Dr. Crandall had reflux disease - with a long and illustrious history of belching. He also had a history of auto-immunity, specifically: PMR, Hypothyroidism, R/A. Not until his dementia began did we start to see early signs of Periodontal Disease. When dad was allowed to follow the protocols on this website, his condition (medically documented) drastically improved.
As is so often the case when treating with multiple doctors, Dad's own protocols were interrupted by docs who disagreed with his medical assessments - reversing all inroads he'd made.
Near the end of his life, the one drug that was the most effective in reversing his cognitive declines had become ineffective due to resistance (10 times on and off a drug will do that). And sadly, in late 2019, he succumbed to the disease. But not before being able to communicate his wish to have his unique brain studied. Presently, we have autopsied the Right hemisphere and have frozen the Left Hemisphere of "The Golden Brain" for future study. Dr. David Crandall's Alzheimer's Legacy Lab is presently gearing up to test the infectious hypothesis of Alzheimer's Disease, which hopefully will result in our discovering a cure.
Anna has been helping her dad find answers to what had been stealing his mind. What started out as being a second set of ears became a full time job of advocating for someone that doctors simply could not diagnose or cure. Her relentless search to find a more compatible diagnosis has connected her to researchers across the world. These genius pioneers have graciously shared their own research and thoughts on the topic without hesitation. After her father died, Anna founded The Curing Alzheimer's Disease Foundation in order to raise the needed money to finance The Alzheimer's Legacy Lab here in Minnesota where researchers will be working hard to understand the irrefutable connection between Alzheimer's Disease and Periodontal (Gum) Disease.
Anna received her BA from the University of Minnesota's School of Journalism. https://www.linkedin.com/in/annashelander/
Her role in this journey has now changed from advocating for Dr. Crandall to chronicling the next step in her father's legacy - helping the University of Minnesota find the Cure for Alzheimer's Disease.
